At Vinitaly 2024 Umberto Cesari is celebrating its first 60 years of activity through the introduction of a new wine dedicated to the winery founder.

“Study of the Merlese grape variety is the final innovative project that my father ardently wanted and personally supervised,” explained Gianmaria Cesari, winery CEO. Right now, as we are celebrating our 60th anniversary and marking the five years since his demise, we thought it right to dedicate the varietal to
him. Thus, the birth of Umberto.

“My father was a true pioneer for Emilia Romagna, always curious and always striving for uncompromising quality. He would repeat his mantra that a great wine comes only from great grapes, and he dedicated his entire life to achieving quality without compromises in a growing area he believed of extraordinary value. His heritage is still alive today in every new project we have, and they carry forward the pride, passion, and curiosity that were his personal qualities right from the very beginning.
“The decision to dedicate our Merlese to him was a natural one. Merlese, after all, was born in 1983, when him and Prof. Intrieri set out to pollinate naturally Sangiovese with Merlot, to create a grape that would embody the best of each parent. My father made available a plot of land to plant the cuttings of Merlese,
and the rest is history.”
