Grape varieties on this podere
Chardonnay
Chardonnay, the fruit of a spontaneous cross between Pinot Noir and Gouais Blanc, is the most widely-cultivated white grape in the world. It yields superb wines, even blended with other grape varieties. On the hillslopes of Castel San Pietro Terme, Chardonnay achieves to the fullest its qualities of elegance, structure, and cellarability, as amply demonstrated in our Liano.
Merlot
Merlot, a spontaneous cross of Magdeleine Noire des Charentes and Cabernet Franc, is one of the world’s most prized grapes. All-Merlot wines are known for their silkiness, elegance, and longevity. Whereas in Bordeaux, it is often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, we combine it with Sangiovese, and the result is our Yemula.
Sangiovese
Sangiovese is the most widely-cultivated grape in Italy, and one of its most favoured habitats is Romagna. Its early presence here is documented by a 1651 document in the State Archives in Faenza, where it is cited as Sanzuvesa. Today, our Resultum represents a Sangiovese di Romagna that is not only deeply traditional but elegant as well.
Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc was introduced to the area around Imola in the mid-1800s. Intensely aromatic yet refreshingly crisp, it yields wines of distinctive character. These qualities are on generous display in our Liano Bianco, in a cuvée with Chardonnay.
Trebbiano Romagnolo
Trebbiano Romagnolo produces white wines that earned Romagna the DOC status in 1973. This hardy and versatile grape can be used for still, semi-sparkling, and even fully sparkling wines with rich personalities and admirable pairing with food. We blend it with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc to make our Moma Bianco.
