We were born from the determination, enthusiasm and vision of a man who, thanks to his work, has been recognized as the ambassador of Sangiovese in the world.
A ride on a Vespa, the gentle slopes of Romagna, a love at first sight between Umberto Cesari and the hills of Castel San Pietro Terme, this is how our story begins.
His interest in wine was born in his father Ilario’s tavern. Study, research and passion had then taken him abroad to the lands of the great French red wines to learn the techniques of blending and ageing in wood, unknown in his region at the time, which are the basis of one of the company iconic wines, Liano. A self-taught knowledge with one goal: to make Sangiovese a great wine.
It was the 60’s, the years of bulk wines and crown corks, yet Umberto Cesari to wine – the good one – he believed in it and started offering it in bottles with label and cork. An absolute novelty for the time.
No less interested in the other typical vines of Emilia Romagna in the 80’s, Umberto Cesari was also among the proponents of the DOCG for Albana di Romagna.
Ours is a story handed down by dreams and passion, love for the land and care for its fruits, from the founder, Umberto Cesari, a stubborn man and convinced supporter of the infinite potential of Emilia Romagna wine, to the people, who during these years, with their work, have built and grown the company.
Art
Over the years we have paid homage to great artists of our land, first of all Giorgio Morandi whom Ilario Cesari, father of Umberto, had met in his youth. We have dedicated several labels to the Bolognese master, including the first version of the MOMA label, the line of wines that has starred since 2011 in a four-year Art Contest involving young artists at an international level.
Literature
Each sip a story, each harvest a story. The link between wine and literature is close and when wine hits the heart, even the great authors talk about wine. So it happened for John Grisham who was so impressed by our Liano that he cited him in his novel The Broke.
