Sustainability

The road to quality

Without respect for the environment, there can be no such thing as high quality wine. For this reason, we have handpicked the methods and technologies needed to achieve an integrated and certified form of agriculture. This is our way of respecting nature in order to create ever better wines.

Activities

Advanced and natural solutions

We only use plant-based products to eliminate residues in our vineyards, a third of which are cultivated organically. We monitor water consumption carefully to minimise its use. We feed the vines naturally with green manure and cover crops. We are always fostering new solutions to preserve the vitality of the soil, limit the use of chemical products and promote biodiversity.

There are many activities, but just one goal
• Weather stations for monitoring environmental conditions
• Integrated pest management
• Focus on microbiological soil fertility
• Use of mycorrhizae during planting
• Use of zeolite on soil and fruit
• Canopy management of the productive part of vines
• Precision agriculture with vigour mapping
• Photovoltaic energy
• Conversion of 30% of vineyards to organic farming
• Green manure and cover crop techniques

LIPPIA
A once-overlooked area of our estate has found new purpose thanks to Lippia. This resilient plant thrives with minimal water and yields an essential oil known for its antispasmodic, sedative and fever-reducing properties. Beyond its benefits in terms of wellbeing, Lippia is beloved by bees – another piece in the puzzle of our commitment to preserving biodiversity.
THE COVER CROPS
Not all the cultivations are grown for picking. In this case, the grasses we allow to grow serve a number of highly useful purposes: they prevent soil erosion, particularly in winter, they are home to insects and they improve soil structure and fertility.
FERTILITY
Organic and organo-mineral fertilisers, vermicompost and mycorrhizae: all natural applications that keep the soil alive, help plants to resist parasites and diseases, and make for better fruit.
ZEOLITE
We use zeolite because it allows us to limit irrigation waste. It is a mineral that increases water retention when it rains, and releases it during drier periods. It also reduces plant stress and allows the soil to improve its nitrogen, potassium and magnesium retention.
VINEYARD MAPPING
Each of our vineyards is unique, which is why we use sensors linked to weather stations, and vigour maps to monitor plant health. We now have a profound understanding of the microclimate and environmental conditions of each plot, allowing us to fine-tune every aspect of vineyard management – from nutrition to vine protection – for optimal care. This also allows us to gauge the right moment for harvesting the grapes, by closely tracking ripening curves.
GREEN MANURING
The most natural way to enrich the soil with organic matter. We sow herbaceous plants between the vine rows, then mulch and bury them after flowering. This practice enhances biodiversity and reduces the need for fertilisers.

Viticulture

Vineyard care and natural grassing

We choose natural techniques at every stage of the plant life cycle to ensure our vines are robust and long-lived, and provide a healthy environment for those who work with us. By planting grass between the rows and letting it grow, we protect the soil from erosion and maintain greater biodiversity.

Leggerezza

Less glass, more sustainability

We have spent a long time studying the shape and thickness of our glass bottles, and in recent years we have managed to reduce their weight by 20%. Not only does this reduce transportation costs, it also limits CO2 and other gas emissions. The use of Amorin corks has also been adopted to reduce environmental impact.

Code of Ethics and Sustainability Report

More attention and
dedication for all

Improving the environmental impact of our operations is a key goal, but our Code of Ethics is about doing more: we set benchmarks for ethics, organisation and management decisions that apply to all of us. In the Sustainability Report we combine environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives in order to measure the results of our commitment and improve year on year.
